Fencing Material Delivered to Honeymoon Island
We have been working for some time to get the light tower reopened to the public. It has been closed because some of the soil around it was found to have been contaminated. A proposal was submitted to The State to fence in the light tower and the sidewalk leading to it to protect visitors from the problem area. We are thankful that The State approved the proposal and a grant from The Florida Lighthouse Association has funded the fencing! The materials have been purchased and were delivered to Honeymoon Island on July 31, 2017. Now the big work of moving the materials to Anclote Key by boat and erecting the fencing can begin. We will need a lot of help to get this done. Stay tuned for updates on when and how you can assist in this project.
FLA Grant Check
We received a check to purchase fencing for around the walkways inside the lighthouse compound. Once purchased, we will have workdays to install the fence. Our target is to have the lighthouse open for climbing in late 2017.

Build a Bridge
When you walk the boardwalk from the south end of Anclote Key, at one point the boardwalk turns to brick. Right there,if you turn left and cross an estuary with varying depths of water depending on recent rainfall, you can go to a picnic area (and find the composting toilet!). Dedicated rangers and volunteers are working on a bridge so you don't have to wade through water much of the year.
Anclote Receives FLA Grant
The Florida Lighthouse Association awards $10,000 for much needed dock repair!
The Florida Lighthouse Association, funded through fundraising efforts as well as speciality license plates, makes grants available for Lighthouse upkeep and repair. Friends of Anclote Key State Park and Lighthouse, a non-profit, citizens organization of volunteers, works to bring attention to the Park, and support the education and visitors’ experiences there. The $10,000 grant will be used to complete needed repairs to the dock.
